The Stingray rocking chair was designed by Thomas Pedersen for Fredericia Furniture. Thomas graduated as an architect from the Aarhus School of Architecture in 2002.
Stingray was a design he had worked on for a long time during his studies, but when he was about to take his final exam, he encountered a problem; the School of Architecture was equipped with a well-stocked woodworking workshop, but had nowhere where one could work with steel and fiberglass. So, together with another student, he created his project in the school's parking lot, and his persistence is still being rewarded to this day.
Stingray is a modern piece of furniture with a dynamic expression, yet built for relaxation, as the rocking chair offers many different seating positions. The design of the rocking chair is inspired by the "Stingray" of the sea. The shell therefore resembles the shape of a large stingray, which contributes to a beautiful, organic shape. The frame is made of steel and constructed without transverse lines, giving the chair a floating appearance.
