Model 548 is a table lamp designed by Gino Sarfatti in 1951. The small upward-pointing bulb shines onto a colored plexiglass shade, which spreads the light widely. The lamp is a study in balance and light reflection through a shade, which has been a recurring theme in Gino Sarfatti's work. Model 548 provides both reflected and diffused light due to the adjustable spotlight directed upwards towards a reflective shade.
The large shade provides an extremely sophisticated lighting effect and is a significant part of the illusion and play with perception. The upward spotlight is made of white-painted aluminum and mounted on a tubular stem in polished brass, while a small brass bar at the base acts as a counterweight and provides balance to the lamp.
