GUBI's Nagasaki Dining Chair was designed in 1954 and remains Mathieu Matégot's most famous work. It was exhibited for the first time at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs in 1954 and, along with Arne Jacobsen's Ant Chair (1952), is one of the few three-legged models. The dining chair is made of perforated sheet metal – Rigitulle, which is characteristic of Matégot's work, and features unique details, such as the small stirrup that holds the seat and legs together. Both the backrest and seat are curved and arched, like a saddle, and the overall impression is one of lightness. The highly graphic design is reminiscent of Le Corbusier's work for the church in Ronchamp. Today, the dining chair is part of the permanent collection at the internationally renowned, privately-owned Vitra Design Museum.
