Model 548 is a table lamp designed by Gino Sarfatti in 1951. The small upward-facing bulb shines on a colored plexiglass shade, which spreads the light widely. The lamp is a study in balance and light reflection through a shade, which has been a consistent theme in Gino Sarfatti's work. Model 548 provides both reflected and diffused light due to the adjustable spotlight directed up towards a reflecting shade.
The large shade provides an extremely sophisticated light effect and is an essential part of the illusion and play with perception. The upward spotlight is made of white-painted aluminum and mounted on a tubular rod in polished brass, while a small brass rod at the bottom acts as a counterweight and gives the lamp balance.
