The Stingray rocking chair was designed by Thomas Pedersen for Fredericia Furniture. Thomas graduated as an architect from the Aarhus School of Architecture in 2002.
Stingray was a design he spent a long time on during his studies, but when it came time for his final exam, he faced a problem; the School of Architecture was equipped with a well-outfitted woodworking shop, but had nowhere to work with steel and fiberglass. So, together with another student, he built his project in the school’s parking lot, and his persistence is still rewarded to this day.
Stingray is a modern piece of furniture that is dynamic in its expression yet built for relaxation, as the rocking chair offers many different sitting positions. The design of the rocking chair is inspired by the "Stingray" of the sea. The shell therefore resembles the shape of a large stingray, contributing to a beautiful, organic form. The frame is made of steel and constructed without transverse lines, giving the chair a floating appearance.
