Think circular economy the next time you buy furniture and interiors

Humans are world champions at using up the Earth's resources. In Denmark, we have such a high consumption of natural resources that we have already, in the first quarter of 2022 have used up our share of the Earth's resources for the entire year! Scary, isn't it?

This is because the majority of our production and consumption is based on a linear economy: We extract resources from the earth, produce, distribute, consume, and throw away!

To reduce our overconsumption, we need to transition to a circular economy - both as producing companies and as shopping consumers. 

We must think in circular solutions for production and consumption!

By circular economy, we mean that existing items are put into a cycle. We must recycle existing materials for new products, and we must reuse and give new life to the good products that are already here. 

Legislators, companies, and consumers are gradually moving towards the transformation from linear to circular production and consumption. But it requires a greater effort from all of us! For example, 11 million tonnes of furniture are thrown away in Europe every year. 

Together, we must increase the lifespan of products that have already been produced by making it easier to repair, recycle, and reuse. Preserving the life that is already here. 

We must move away from the throwaway culture

But what can you actually do as an individual and consumer to become more sustainable and circular in your consumption?

  • Consume less

  • Buy quality products when buying both new and used - they last longer

  • Have your things repaired when possible.

  • Give or sell them on when you are finished with the products. 

  • Buy circularly and give new life to products that would otherwise be thrown away
